Amamoor Lodge Cobb & Co. History
Living so close to the historic gold mining town of Gympie, and always interested in all things old, it was John’s dream to one day, own a Cobb & Co. coach. We are fortunate enough to live close to master coach builder, Len Baldry, who first restored a spindle back sulky for us. John visited regularly to get his fill of how Len built and repaired horse drawn vehicles of all types. Our Cobb & Co. coach was started in 2006. Being the master coach builder that he is, Len used all hand tools to construct our coach from original Cobb & Co. plans. He crafts everything from the wheels, metalwork, timberwork, upholstery to the final pin striping. The axles on our coach are original from a Cobb & Co. coach. The leather thoroughbracing takes 5 sides of bullock hides to ensure the comfort of passengers. In early 2008, our beautiful Cobb & Co. coach was delivered. The leather harness is a replica of the harness used by Cobb and the harness fittings were forged locally by a world class blacksmith.
